The Brief

A regional water authority needed to double the capacity of their wastewater treatment plant — which was already running at 95% capacity and couldn't be taken offline.

The Challenge

Replacing major equipment and installing two new biological treatment trains while the existing plant continued treating 48,000 m³/day. A complete SCADA migration (Siemens to Schneider) had to happen without a single permit exceedance during the transition.

Our Approach

We phased the construction to keep at least 60% treatment capacity online at all times. The SCADA migration was done system-by-system with parallel running periods. We managed the interface between 3 main contractors and the waterschap's own operations team, with daily coordination meetings during critical tie-in periods. The new tertiary filtration with phosphorus removal was designed to exceed the new, stricter discharge limits coming into effect in 2025.

Results

€22M project value
Delivered 3 months ahead of schedule
Zero permit exceedances during 18-month construction
30% reduction in energy per m³ treated
Effluent quality 25% below new discharge limits

"What I appreciated most was their honesty. When our scope was unrealistic for the budget, they told us — and helped us make smarter choices."
